Chester County Dental provides oral health outreach and educational programs for children and adults of all ages. In 2010 our staff provided programs that educated more than 4,800 county residents!
Our specially trained outreach staff will coordinate informational programs about:
- oral health and its direct relationship
to total health
- impact of gum disease on heart disease,
respiratory disease & uncontrolled diabetes
- smoking cessation and substance misuse
- balanced nutrition and total wellbeing
- relationship between gum infection and pre-term, low birth-weight delivery
- mouth cancer and what habits make us vulnerable
- new dental techniques and home healthcare products
In addition, our staff provide:
- training for healthcare providers to provide daily mouth care & oral cancer exams for patients
- sealants to prevent cavities in deeply grooved back teeth
- dental screenings for toddlers, children, teens and adults with referral to accessible dental care
Our programs are offered free of charge throughout Chester County, with special emphasis on the Coatesville school district, where we provide school-based screenings and oral health education. Outreach and educational programs are also provided at a variety of health and human services organizations, including:
- Chester Co. Intermediate Unit
- Headstart and Day care facilities
- Senior centers
- Veterans Administration
- YMCAs
- Even Start & Migrant Education
- Summer camp programs
- Healthy Start parenting classes
- Career Link & Welfare to work programs
- Nursing Home staff in-service
- Health fairs & Community events
